Civitavecchia offers tourists arriving from the sea, iteineraries of great interest from nature, culture and history to wellbeing. All the destinations proposed are within easy reach and can include pauses for food and drink of undoubted interest.
The beautiful Parco dell'Uccellina lies to the north, and inland, Viterbo with its city walls dating back to the beginning of the year 1000. Then there is Bolsena Lake and the fasciniting town of Civita di Bagnoregio, built on a spur of tufa and subjected to continuous erosion.
Inland from Civitavecchia, just past the coastal strip, lies the Monti della Tolfa Nature Park which rises to a height of 638m, and where endangered animals can often be encountered, as well as the common kite together with eagle-owls and great spotted woodpeckers. Ancient mines, where alum - a mineral used in numerous ways - was extracted, can be visited in the town of Allumiere.
Going further south, Santa Marinella and Santa Severa are just 10 kilometres from Civitavecchia and exhibit remains of Roman bridges an the ancient course of Via Aurelia.
