(24-05-2007 ) - Noise Management in European Ports

Introduction
A one day conference focusing on the reduction of noise in ports convenes in Civitavecchia on June 11, 2006.  The Conference forms part of the ongoing NoMEPorts project and will assess the European noise directive and its implications for European Ports.

NoMEPorts Background
The main objective of NoMEPorts is reduction of noise, noise-related annoyance and health problems of people living around port industrial areas through demonstration of noise mapping and noise management systems. The project is funded by the LIFE-Environment Programme of the European Commission.

Conference objectives
1. Increase awareness of the importance and possibilities of noise management in ports and port areas
2. Disseminate the results of the NoMEPorts project and other experiences on noise management in European ports
3. Create support for ongoing port management and port development.

The NoMEPorts Conference will address the following topics:
